Colin Powell is Still Talking

But he hasn’t quite got this Obama cat figured out yet.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Colin Powell worries that President Barack Obama is trying to tackle too many big issues at one time and he offers this advice: take a hard look at costs and consider the additional red tape that will be created.

"The right answer is, ‘Give me a government that works,’" the former secretary of state said in a television interview to be aired Sunday. "Keep it as small as possible," added Powell, who said he has spoken recently with Obama and stays in touch with him. Powell, a Republican, endorsed Obama last year over the GOP presidential nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain.

He’s like the Scarecrow. He wants to be helpful, but doesn’t know what the hell is going on or which direction is the right one. Obama’s just doing what everybody knew he was going to do.  He came into politics as a Marxist, rabblerousing ideologue, and that’s how he’s governing.  Is Powell actually surprised that Obama’s a big government guy? If he is surprised, why? Obama outright said he was going to spread everybody’s wealth around and expand government control. And if he’s not surprised by it, then why did he endorse Obama? Who knows? At this point, we can only hope the Wizard can give him a brain.

"I think one of the cautions that has to be given to the president – and I’ve talked to some of his people about this – is that you can’t have so many things on the table that you can’t absorb it all. And we can’t pay for it all," Powell said.

"And I never would have believed that we would have budgets that are running into the multi-trillions of dollars, and we are amassing a huge, huge national debt that, if we don’t pay for in our lifetime, our kids and grandkids and great grandchildren will have to pay for it."

Not too long ago Powell said, "Americans are looking for more government in their lives, not less. Americans do want to pay taxes for services."  But after conferring with the flowers and consulting with the rain, he’s a limited-government guy again and Obama’s big government and big deficits have him worried.  Well ain’t that a kick in the nuts!

Obama is putting so many things on the table on purpose, Powell. To borrow military terms, he’s attacking us on multiple fronts with overwhelming force. It’s not a goddamned mistake, dude, it’s a strategy! If you wanted a tax-cutting spending-hawk you could have endorsed your buddy and fellow moderate John McCain. But you endorsed Barack Obama because, I don’t know, he’s got dark skin or something?

The contradictory messages from this guy are an embarrassment.  I don’t know what he thinks he’s trying to accomplish or what he thinks his role is, but he’s approaching Biden-caliber bullshit whenever he opens his mouth now.
