Obama says stimulus is working
And finally admits that whatever it was, it wasn’t a stimulus.
President Barack Obama said his $787 billion stimulus bill “has worked as intended” as he pushed back against Republican criticism that his recovery program has failed to rescue the economy.
“It has already extended unemployment insurance and health insurance to those who have lost their jobs in this recession,” Obama, who is traveling today in Ghana, said in his weekly Saturday radio and Web address.
I’m going to go ahead and feel a little vindicated. I’m not alone. Most people knew this was a scam, a lie, a fraud, a wasteful boondoggle that we’ll be paying for for the rest of our lives. The intention was to extend benefits to people who are out of work. That’s not a stimulus. The intention was to bail out state governments who spent tax dollars irresponsibly. That’s not a stimulus. The intention was to “create or save” government jobs that, while they may be necessary in a very few cases, don’t generate economic growth. That’s not a stimulus.
“We’re moving in the right direction,” Obama said. “We must let it work the way it’s supposed to, with the understanding that in any recession, unemployment tends to recover more slowly than other measures of economic activity.”
That would be true if there was one measure of economic activity that is recovering. There isn’t. Unemployment is at a 26-year high. The stock market is showing no signs of recovery or optimism. Businesses are terrified about how Obama’s Cap & Trade and socialist health care are going to affect their ability to keep employees and invest in their businesses. Deficits are out of control, interest rates are rising and inflation is around the corner. How could we possibly interpret from this that recovery is on the way?
He’s a fool. A liar. A tool. An amateur. An ideologue. And now they’re getting ready to impose another “stimulus.” We have to stop falling for this stuff.
