Week In Review

The White House sets up their snitch hotline, asking people to send report their friends and neighbors and parents and children for saying “fishy” things about the health care plan. If you’re up in the air about this, consider how the media and the left would have responded had Bush set up a White House mailbox for reports about people who disagreed with the Patriot Act.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives implied that the people protesting Health Care reform are Nazis.

Senator Barbara Boxer said the protesters could not be for real because they were too well-dressed. When you compare them to stinky anti-war hippies, yes, they’re far too civilized to be compared to those kinds of people.

Barack Obama blamed his health care bill on Republicans, implying that whatever he thinks is wrong with it is there fault. Whatever. The cool part is that the president of the United States told conservatives to shut up and stop debating it. "We’ve got some work to do. I don’t mind, by the way, being responsible. I expect to be held responsible for these issues because I’m the president. But I don’t want the folks that created the mess — I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them just to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don’t mind cleaning up after them, but don’t do a lot of talking."

We’re supposed to ignore the part that the “mess” that Bush left for Obama was a deficit of about $450 billion. It’s now over $2 trillion. SHUT UP YOU!

Let’s see, what else. Democrats are apparently deciding not to face their constituents in town hall meetings, as they normally do, and are instead holding meetings in childrens’ hospitals and conference calls, so that they can control the discourse that way.

A liberal talk show host has called upon Glenn Beck to commit suicide live on TV.

Joe Biden commented on the economy, “Less good is not good, but less good is better than worse. When I say ‘less good,’ I mean ‘less bad.’”

The president’s two top advisors on health care are cost-benefit analysts who believe old people and infants are less valuable to society, and therefore we should direct money that we currently spend on sick babies and grandmas to the 18-54 year old consumer market segment.

Interestingly, AARP came out in favor of health care reform anyway.

The socialist labor unions are mobilizing against conservatives to support socialized medicine.

The president’s top science and technology advisor believes in putting sterilization agents in the water supply to control the Earth’s population.

The Senate rejected a proposal to use the traded-in cars from the Cash for Clunkers program to help poor families and charities. On a party-line vote, Democrats chose to continue destroying functional, working assets that could be put to good use.

And finally, the FCC named a “Chief Diversity Officer” who opposes the “imbalance” of political talk radio. The pieces are falling into place for the government to censor conservative talk radio.

I hope Jesus comes back soon.

Democrats want to tax “Cadillac” health insurance policies

http://www.redstate.com/jeff_emanuel/2009/08/04/proposal-to-tax-cadillac-health-coverage-will-hit-lower-and-middle-classes-hardest/

As the Senate Finance Committee takes its health care overhaul negotiations into the August recess, President Obama and key Senate negotiators are still struggling to find a way to afford the flagging health care overhaul proposal’s trillion dollar price tag. Their latest proposal, a new tax on so-called “gold-plated, Cadillac” health insurance policies, is receiving broad support from legislators and administration officials who see it as yet another opportunity to pay for an expansion of government by soaking the “rich” – a perception that is, thanks in large part to existing government policies, incredibly wrong.

This is being shopped to the public as just another tax on the super-wealthy, with Obama administration officials pointing to the “$40,000-a-year health insurance policies” carried by a handful of top Wall Street executives as examples of such unnecessarily luxurious coverage. However, a tax on “Cadillac” health insurance policies would end up disproportionately affecting middle- and lower-income Americans across the board, as well as the entire insured populations of several states.

Let’s say you work for a company in an extremely competitive industry that seeks to hire and retain the very best employees it can. One way they do that is to offer exceptional health care benefits to its employees and their families.

Well, guess what? The government hates that idea! The idea that some people might have better insurance than others is unfair, and your benefits should be taxed. In order to make things more fair, you and your company will either have to pay a tax penalty to the government so that the government can pay for their stupid universal health care plan, or you’ll have to give up your good insurance and sign up for the crappy government-regulated plan. What an absolute joy this is going to turn out to be.

Force Congress into government health care

http://www.fleming.house.gov/

Under the current draft of the Democrat healthcare legislation, members of Congress are curiously exempt from the government-run health care option, keeping their existing health plans and services on Capitol Hill. If Members of Congress believe so strongly that government-run health care is the best solution for hard working American families, I think it only fitting that Americans see them lead the way. Public servants should always be accountable and responsible for what they are advocating, and I challenge the American people to demand this from their representatives.

Absolutely. If the “public option” is really so great, why would Congress exempt itself from it? The same bastards who can vote themselves a pay raise have the ability to vote themselves better health care than the rest of us. Shameless.

House Passes Cap and Trade

The House of Representatives today voted by a very thin margin to enact cap and trade legislation that everybody agrees will directly increase costs of electricity and gasoline for every American, and indirectly increase the costs of everything we build, buy, sell, move or do.  The effect of this legislation is that living our lives and pursuing our dreams will get harder. Our unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness will be harder to enjoy.  Our daily lives will become more expensive.  We’ll have a tougher time giving our kids the opportunities that we’ve had.  We’ll have to work harder and longer in order to retire someday.  We’ll pay more for less.  Our best businesses will have to perform better just to stay competitive, and our marginal businesses will be pushed into failure.  Jobs will be lost.  Our Representatives are building speed bumps for everybody.

Why?  Because some people believe that humans are causing “climate change” by emitting carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses.  The climate on the planet has always changed.  There have been ice ages.  There have been warm periods with massive desertification.  There have been intense solar cycles, and there have been times when the sun is very inactive.  There have been volcanic eruptions that toss so much shit into the air that it cools the entire planet for decades.  The last ten years have been remarkable in the LACK of evidence for a change in global temperature, but for some reason the House had to pass this bill with little debate TODAY.

The skepticism over man-made global warming has been swelling for years. Other countries are backing off on their prior climate change policies.  Other countries have NO plan to limit their own potential by enacting this kind of suicidal regulatory regime.  China’s economy is a fraction of the size of America’s, but they emit massive amounts of carbon.  They have no plan to change that, whereas we are on the road to unilaterally crippling ourselves.

This insanity is not new.  We add corn to our gasoline to protect the environment, when it actually reduces engine efficiency, causes engines to fail early, pits food sources against energy sources and drives up costs, and the increased farming puts more pesticides into water supplies.  We buy ugly cars for more money, and the costs don’t offset until almost a decade after driving them under normal use.  Some people have been terrified into the idea that we’re killing ourselves with carbon dioxide by people who have personal stakes in companies that stand to benefit directly from passing legislation to “prevent” it.  If I told you your tits were going to fall off unless you rubbed them down with my special sauce, you’d call bullshit.  But Al Gore makes himself a PowerPoint presentation and everybody’s bowels explode.

The first motive is money.  Political elites have set up a system in which they control the supply of a commodity THAT DOESN’T EXIST, and then tell you you have to buy it or they’ll fine you and make you buy it anyway.

The second motive is envy.  Pointy-headed intellectuals and politicians who think they’re smarter than everybody else, but who have never created or produced anything in their lives, look at the capitalist system and private sector as cheap and materialistic, but they want a piece of that wealth for themselves.  So they spend their lives tearing them down and enacting public policy that transfers private wealth into their public coffers, so that they can give it to who they believe is more “deserving” of it, people who they “approve” of.

The most important motive is power.  Stripping money and influence and power from individuals and from private organizations and funneling it into community organizations and massive, unaccountable government bureaucracies and labor unions and nationalized industries puts THEM in control of the means of production.  THEY control who gets wealthy, THEY control what gets made, who makes it, how it’s used.

Why are environmentalists and their organizations almost exclusively liberal, if not utterly Marxist?  It’s because they see the environmental cause as a route to the acquisition of power.  They see it as a way to instill fear.  Fear causes people to make bad decisions.  And bad decisions are how free people willingly surrender their individual rights.  If you can get people to believe that the world is coming to an end, that its their fault, that they’re going to lose their jobs and their health care, that bankers and Jews are causing it, and then present them with a clean, articulate, hip black friend who can read a teleprompter like nobody’s business and convince them that he has all the answers to their fears?  It’s like shooting poorly-educated, Obama-voting fish in a barrel.

The only way we can prevent this nightmare scenario from unfolding is to get the Senate to stop it.  If I may be coarse for a moment, call or write your goddamned Senator for once in your life.  They might not listen, particularly if you live in an intellectual wasteland like Washington State, but your conscience will be intact, and you and I can share a beer and a hearty laugh together when the bastards are voted out.

Yours,

PS  Dave Reichert is a mental midget.  It might have only taken him thirty years to catch the Green River Killer, so kudos for that.  But today we all might as well be dead hookers for all Dave cares.  Screw that guy.
