Senator Patty Murray on the Cap and Trade Bill

Obama’s health care/shamwow informercial tonight on ABC is providing nice cover for the cap and trade vote that’s coming later this week.  I emailed the good Senator this morning, suggesting that cap and trade was a pile of dook and she should vote against it.  Here’s her canned response.

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACESA) of 2009. I appreciate hearing from you regarding this pending legislation. ACESA was introduced in the House of Representatives on May 15, 2009 and is currently being considered by multiple House committees.

As you know, our nation is faced with a growing global demand for energy, a heavy reliance on fossil fuels, record-high energy prices, and environmental concerns regarding energy use. I know that Washington state families are struggling with soaring energy costs, but also want cleaner forms of energy and a more diversified national energy policy that lessens our dependence on foreign oil. I believe it will take American innovation and smart policies that encourage conservation, energy efficiency, and increase renewable energy research and development to address this critical issue and create a comprehensive national energy policy.

Throughout my tenure in the United States Senate, I have supported energy policies that benefit consumers and encourage diversification of our nation’s energy sources. As a member of both the Senate Budget and Appropriation Committees, I have fought for increased funding of important alternative energy research and development programs in Washington State and across the nation. In order to encourage private sector development of new forms of energy technology, I have consistently supported higher fuel economy standards for vehicles and federal tax incentives to help spur investment in natural gas, wind, solar, biomass, and other renewable energy sources. In addition, I believe it is vital that Congress works to increase energy independence without sacrificing environmental protections or hurting the economy or consumers.

Like you, I am deeply concerned about record-high energy prices and our continuing dependence on foreign oil. Although responsible increased domestic production should be part of our national energy policy, I firmly believe that we must move forward with progressive policies that promote alternative energy, energy conservation and efficiency. Be assured, I will be working to ensure that we institute a sensible, comprehensive energy policy that focuses on renewable energy and decreases our dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels.

Energy policy is one of the most critical issues facing our nation. We must move forward with progressive policies that fund alternative energy development and work in conjunction with sound environmental policy. Please be assured I will keep your views in mind if ACESA or related legislation comes before the Senate for consideration. If you would like to know more about my work in the Senate, please feel free to sign up for my updates at http://murray.senate.gov/updates. Thank you again for writing, and please keep in touch.

We must move forward with progressive policies.  Those are, ahem, codewords for government seizing more control and authority over the economy and our lives.  Just thought someone might be interested.

Carbon

Obama Administration causes NYC to lose its mud

A jumbo jet being chased by a F-16 fighter jets buzzed Lower Manhattan this morning, panicking New Yorkers, many of whom were forced to evacuate their office buildings.

It was not a terrorist attack, however, but a photo opportunity for Air Force One, sources told the Post.

President Obama was in Washington at the time, but the low-flying 747 circling the Statue of Liberty was one of the planes used as Air Force One, sources said.

OK, so a 747 and an F16 are up there this morning taking pictures of themselves next to the Statue of Liberty.  Apparently nobody told the City of New York about this, so people, being understandably sensitive to low-flying planes in downtown Manhattan, panic and flee their buildings.  For a photo-op.  Of Air Force One.

Leaving aside the pointlessness and sloppiness of it all, I would like to humbly request that we disregard any future preaching by Barack Obama, his administration, or the Democrat party about America’s carbon footprint.  I don’t know exactly how much carbon is generated by an empty 747 and a fighter jet doing low-altitude maneuvers, but I’m pretty sure it’s more than I emit in a year.  But regardless, they’ve made it quite clear that however much they emitted today, it was less important than a publicity photo of the President’s airplane.

Al Gore

His scientists are rocking the boat.

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=12403

The APS is also sponsoring public debate on the validity of global warming science.  The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming “incontrovertible.”

In a posting to the APS forum, editor Jeffrey Marque explains,”There is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very probably likely to be primarily responsible for global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution.”

Meanwhile, he and his apostles are still assholes:

In his speech, Gore said we only have ten years to act before we will not have the ability to recover from environmental crisis.  He also said two and a half years ago that we only have ten years left.  I guess we’ve done something right since 2006 that’s extended our ability to survive.

But this time he means it, and it’s just a matter of time before we start eating each other.

Douchebags.

Distinctions

On one hand, we have a guy who expects us to make our own decisions based on the problems we face.  On the other hand, we have a guy who wants to meddle in our individual lives and tell us what we can and can’t do.

Hopey McChangerson

“We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,” Obama said. “That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen,” he added.”

George W. Bush

Reporter Mark Smith: “Why have you not called on Americans to drive less and turn down their thermostats?”

President Bush: “They’re smart enough to figure out whether they’re going to drive less or not.  The consumer is plenty bright… They can balance their own checkbooks.”

Gas prices, and who not to vote for

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday shut the door on expanding oil and gas drilling beyond areas that have already been approved for energy exploration, drawing a clear distinction from her counterparts in charge of the Senate.

“This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration” Pelosi said at her weekly press conference. “It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”

She thinks we’re stupid.  Given the policy outlined in the first paragraph, who is preventing increased oil extraction?  Who is opposed to reducing our dependence on foreign oil imports?  Who’s playing politics instead of making the country more powerful and more secure?  The answer is ALWAYS Democrats.
