Rain belongs to the government

From Cryptogon

The article doesn’t mention why it was illegal in the first place, but I don’t really care, either. I still can’t imagine why you’d need to register to collect your own rainwater.  Or why you’d need a Cthulhu-approved container to store it in. Or why you’d only be allowed to store a certain amount.

I can only assume that it’s just stupid government being stupid again. Or maybe you’re not supposed to be able to provide for yourself. Self-sufficiency and resilience are frowned upon.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – The Utah Legislature has passed a bill that would permit the personal collection of rainwater.

The House unanimously approved the legislation on Wednesday. It has already cleared the Senate.

If signed by the governor the measure would reverse a decades-old prohibition on rainwater harvesting in the state.

Senate Bill 32 would permit the collection of no more than 2,500 gallons in a storage container.

If it becomes law Utahns wouldn’t be able to just put out barrels in the backyard. The proposal requires registering with the state and buying a standardized container.

Free Lunch

If you need a yardstick by which to measure your effectiveness as a parent, a fair place to start would be to ask yourself if your kids go hungry on snow days.

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — As back-to-back snowstorms shuttered schools for the week across the mid-Atlantic states, parents fretted about lost learning time, administrators scheduled makeup days and teachers posted assignments online.

But Marla Caplon worried about a more fundamental problem: How would students eat?

The two snowstorms that pummeled the region, leaving more than 3 feet of snow in some areas, deprived tens of thousands of children from Virginia to Pennsylvania of the free or reduced-price school lunch that may be their only nutritious meal of the day.

Self-Destruction

Berkeley High May Cut Out Science Labs

The proposal would trade labs seen as benefiting white students for resources to help struggling students.

Social justice. Spreading the wealth around. Equal sharing of miseries. Whatever you call it, the politically-correct left would rather hobble the achievers in favor of the stragglers. It’s gotten to the point where they’re going to actively take resources away from successful white kids in order to direct resources to struggling non-white kids. It’s not racism if white people are the victims.

Berkeley High School is considering a controversial proposal to eliminate science labs and the five science teachers who teach them to free up more resources to help struggling students.

The proposal to put the science-lab cuts on the table was approved recently by Berkeley High’s School Governance Council, a body of teachers, parents, and students who oversee a plan to change the structure of the high school to address Berkeley’s dismal racial achievement gap, where white students are doing far better than the state average while black and Latino students are doing worse.

Paul Gibson, an alternate parent representative on the School Governance Council, said that information presented at council meetings suggests that the science labs were largely classes for white students. He said the decision to consider cutting the labs in order to redirect resources to underperforming students was virtually unanimous.

We seem intent on hobbling civilization at an institutional level, for some reason. Thank Christ for the home-school movement. Nobody cares about your kid’s education more than you do.

Harry Reid on Obama

According to Harry Reid, Barack Obama’s success stemmed partly from his ability to not sound like such a darkie.

According to the new book "Game Change," Reid "was wowed by Obama’s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama — a ‘light-skinned’ African American ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,’ as he said privately.

Of course, he’s not the first to say so. Vice President Biden is, you’ll remember, is a big fan of clean and articulate blacks, too.

Somehow Democrats get a pass on this kind of stuff. Republicans lose their jobs for less. I guess as long as you vote to keep the welfare and abortions flowing freely, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will keep their mouths shut.

Christmas means it time for diversity

It’s crazy when stuff like this shows up on the same day. This is a stupid country.

First:

Second-graders sing about Allah in their holiday performance

Here’s what the children were assigned to sing:

“Allah is God, we recall at dawn,
Praying ‘til night during Ramadan
At this joyful time we pray happiness for you,
Allah be with you all your life through.”

But when it came time to perform the “Christian” part of Christmas, children were assigned to say:

“I didn’t know there was a little boy at the manger. What child is this?
I’m not sure if there was a little boy or not.
Then why did you paint one on your nativity window?
I just thought if there was a little boy, I’d like to know exactly what he (sic) say.

Second:

Second-grader suspended over drawing of Jesus

A Taunton father is outraged after his 8-year-old son was sent home from school and required to undergo a psychological evaluation after drawing a stick-figure picture of Jesus Christ on the cross.

The father said he got a call earlier this month from Maxham Elementary School informing him that his son, a second-grade student, had created a violent drawing. The image in question depicted a crucified Jesus with Xs covering his eyes to signify that he had died on the cross. The boy wrote his name above the cross.
